We started work on the new carp lake at the end of October. The obvious place to site it was in the low-lying land behind the existing carp lake where water can to naturally drain into the area. This will help with the filling and also prevent it drying out.
With the weather we’ve been having the new lake is filling up nicely. It should provide around 10 pegs for carp fishing. The depth of the new lake will vary between 6 and 10 feet deep perfect for coarse fish, with deeper areas they like in the winter time.
First of all we marked out the shape. The lake is contoured with bends and sheltered coves allowing privacy for anglers and additional space for fishing.
After marking the shape the next step was to scrape off the topsoil. Then we began removing the rest of the earth. By the second week of November the digging was nearly finished.
There’s still lots of work to do on the banks but it’s great to see it taking shape at last!
